Public Energy Presents Performances May Be Permanent (World Premiere)

Written and performed by Kate Story (Peterborough), with music performed by Bill Brennan (St. John’s), directed by Ker Wells (Vancouver).                           Kate Story in "Performances May Be Permanent" (Photo: Wayne Eardley)

Through dance, theatre and live piano, Performances May Be Permanent follows Kate Story as she explores the deep personal connections between Glenn Gould, a dying mother, the nature of memory, the inner workings of a brain hooked on music, and the redemptive power of connection.

The 30-minute performance will be followed by a Reception and Q&A with the three collaborators – Kate, Bill and Ker – who will talk about how the work came together.

This premiere performance is the culmination of over three years of development. Successive versions of Performances were workshopped and performed in Peterborough and Hamilton, as well as St. John's, Bill and Kate's hometown. After its world premiere in Peterborough, Performances will go on to be presented in St. John's in October at the Festival of New Dance, one of Canada's longest-running dance festivals.
