Ode'min Giizis Traditional Gathering/Pow Wow

National Aboriginal Day and Summer Solstice Celebration

June 21

7am Sunrise Ceremony at Del Crary Park with Shirley Williams, Liz Osawamick and Douglas Williams

Morning gathering to celebrate the first day of summer, expressing and honoring the ode'min (heartberry/strawberry) and out water. Gathering led by Anishmaane elders and traditional people Doug Williams @ Liz Osawamick (out of respect for the tradtions of our elders, women please wear long skirts.) Everyone Welcome!
Location: northeast point of Del Crary Park
Breakfast following ceremony at Whistle Stop Café 141 Charlotte Street. $8.99 Buffet

9:30-11am Wii-Kendiming Nishinaabemowin Saswaansing (the Art of Learning Language in the Little Nest)

A community based project supported by Indigenous Performance Initiatives invites the community to join parents and their children who have been meeting weekly to learn Anishinaabemowin (Ojibway) language basics and songs. This program has been directed by Leanne Simpson and Hilary Wear working with the assistance of Elder, Vera Bell.
Location: Performance Tipi located south east corner of Del Crary Park on AGP Grounds.


12:00am Community Procession from Peterborough City Hall traveling on George Street to Del Crary Park. Many thanks to Red Pepper Spectacle Arts for their participating company of puppetry images and artists.

7pm: Seal Woman, performed by local theatre artist, Hilary Wear
