Created by celebrated choreographer and connoisseur of contemporary music, Marie-Josée Chartier’s petites danses is a study in perception. Set to the music of Linda C. Smith, Rodney Sharman, James Tenney and Nick Storring, Chartier creates unique choreographic worlds that shape and re-shape our perception of sound. Four musical works are imagined through moving bodies twice – resulting in eight distinct choreographies, inviting us to witness how movement allows us to see the beauty and complexity of each musical composition.

With an exceptional ensemble of professional dancers and local performers, Chartier imagines and re-imagines each instrumental score by creating a visual and physical landscape that appears and disappears in a brief moment. Like a short story, each dance is succinct and multi-layered.

All are welcome.

Choreographer Marie-Josée Chartier and her company will show an excerpt from her brand new work and answer your questions about the creative process. This work, petites danses, will have its world premiere at the Market Hall on October 29 at 8pm.
