The premiere of an original, professional work of musical theatre made in Peterborough.
Produced by the Hungry Collective, presented by Public Energy.
Book by Kate Story, Music by Susan Newman, Lyrics by Rob Fortin. Directed by Susan Spicer. Performers include Jacob Abrahamse, Whitney Barris, Justin Hiscox, Haley McGee, Jeff Schissler, Caylie Staples and Jeremy Lapalme. Designed by Akiva Romer-Segal.
Created by some of Peterborough’s foremost professional theatre artists, Hungry is an uplifting story of children’s ingenuity and the struggles and rewards of finding one’s own path. Hungry traces the traditional plotline of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale in a modernized idiom with an original musical score, appealing lyrics and imaginative stage, set and costume creations. With all the dynamics of live musical theatre, fresh new characters along with contemporary dialogue and humour for both child and adult to enjoy, the re-telling of the popular classic is sure to please. Let us introduce you to Hansel and Gretel, meet the Itchy Witch, Fraidy Cat, a Blues Singing Gingerbread Man and a Princess as smart as she is pretty. A tale of triumph over neglect and poverty, of child heroes who discover their own way out of their predicaments, of the importance of friendship and sharing, Hungry will resonate with children and open the doors for discussion both in the classroom and around the dining table. With performances by a cast of outstanding professionals, the premiere of Hungry promises to be a memorable theatre event.
Ideal for grades 3 to 6
