Retired outport fisherman Uncle Val has little good to say about living in St. John’s with his daughter and her family, as he reveals in a series of letters “back home.” But Uncle Val’s heart is not nearly as hard as he would like to make out. One of Canada’s great comic actors and former member of Newfoundland’s legendary comedy troupe, CODCO, Jones brings one of his most beloved characters to life with humour and plenty of introspection on finding joy in the face of disappointment.
“Sometimes impishly mischievous, sometime earnestly intent; now straight-face, now wild-eyed, Jones’s performance is versatile, but always open and candid.” ~ St. John’s Telegram
