The Wearable Art Show

512 MG 3063

A showcase of Peterborough artists unleashing wild creations upon the catwalk, all to benefit Public Energy’s work in the community. As an audience member, it is an opportunity to dress up and get down with the artistic milieu while showing your support of Public Energy’s work in the community. As an artist, this is your opportunity to show off your talents and challenge your abilities, as you meld your mind with new materials. Get Inspired – Get Involved!  Click here for more information.

The Runway Challenge?

The Runway Challenge is the feature attraction in Public Energy’s Wearable Art Show!  Seven artists/designers are matched up with seven local businesses and challenged to create a stunning work of sartorial genius to be strutted down the catwalk at Market Hall. The catch? The artists only find out which business/materials they’ll be working with one month ahead of time, and those materials have nothing to do with fashion. The result is a fashion show unlike any other; where wildly creative outfits are modeled and presented in a fun and theatrical way.

View a short film by Wayne Eardley, which creates a subjective and imaginary visual that compliments the 2016 Runway Challenge Artists’ imagination.

Wearable Art Show Opening Act!

Welcome to the Dream Players!  This year’s show will open with a magical performance “Metamorphosis” created especially for the Wearable Art Show, by Community Living Peterborough’s Dream Players – an incredibly talented 15 member Performing Arts Troupe comprised of adults with intellectual disabilities.  They sing, dance, act and have a wonderful time and just may have you moved to tears and cheering with joy!  This troupe has been sharing their special gifts with audiences through variety shows and musicals for 15 years, and will be led by choreographers Vicky Christina Paradisis and Nell Corrigan.

The Dream Players as “Thriller” flash mob.

Open Call Participants

Public Energy is thrilled to have the Peterborough Integrated Arts Program (PIA) Fashion Arts students, Peterborough Alternative & Continuing Education (PACE) and Strutt Central participating in this years show!

Peterborough Integrated Arts Program (PIA)

What is the Integrated Arts Program?  Located at Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School, the Peterborough Regional Integrated Arts Program is an enrichment program of study in the Arts for Secondary School Students. The program has been established by the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board to meet the needs of students who have a special interest or talent in the Arts. These students have an opportunity to combine their graduation requirements with an integrated study of Arts including: Drama, Music, Visual Art, and Dance.

Peterborough Alternative & Continuing Education (PACE)

Peterborough Alternative & Continuing Education (PACE at Peterborough Collegiate) offers programs that serve a wide variety of students.  This includes students under 21 years of age and Adult Education students over the age of 21.  Their mandate is to identify the gaps in their students educational profiles and then to develop and implement a program that meets their needs as they work toward the achievement of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).  PACE has developed partnerships with local business owners and community organizations (established through the former C.I.S. program) and works to broaden the range of opportunities for their students to experience Co-operative Education work placements in our community.

LIFE IS A RUNWAY STRUTT . . .

At STRUTT we are setting out to change the face of the modeling industry. We are focused on building self esteem and confidence while focusing on each individuals inner and outer beauty. We believe beauty is not defined by society standards, that beauty is defined by the individual and does not have a certain size, height or weight.
