On January 15, 2004, Toronto’s Number Eleven Theatre began a tour of their two original performances, ICARIA and The Prague Visitor, through Northern and Southern Ontario, Saskatchewan and Quebec. A permanent ensemble dedicated to creating original performance from text, action, story and song, Number Eleven has previously toured Eastern Canada and the U.S. and won strong appreciation for its work in diverse and remote communities. This North Western tour continues the company’s dedication to the pursuit of fresh audience and cultural and community exchange. In addition to performing, the company will hold performance workshops, creating opportunities for exchange within the communities where they are performing.
Both ICARIA and The Prague Visitor are born out of the company’s commitment to explore the unique potential of live theatre to thrill and move audiences. In ICARIA, a young woman named Daphne summons whirling memories of her childhood and her loving but dangerously brilliant brother Thomas; intense movement, exquisite song, and towering stilt walkers capture the experience of love and loss through the eyes of a child.
