Season: 2010-2011
Dance Like No One Is Watching
Concept and Direction
Meagan O’Shea
Surprise and spectacle erupt in unexpected locations as contemporary dance becomes public art. Dance like no one is watching is inspired by mobile clubbing. It is contemporary dance as public art; animating and reshaping the public’s perspective of their space.
Dancers will appear in public spaces to perform spontaneously composed choreography together. Sometimes the soundtrack will be a secret, heard in the dancers’ headsets and by audience who follow online (www.publicenergy.ca) and download the playlist to listen along. Sometimes the soundtrack will be broadcast through portable transistor radios that will tune in and out as the dancers move, creating an original score, sometimes music is amplified, dependent on the surroundings.
This is your chance to perform original choreography created by Toronto-based dance artist Meagan O’Shea, who has presented dance like no one is watching at Scotiabank Nuit Blanche arts festival and Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, among many other venues. It is open to dancers and non-dancers alike, who can all… dance like no one is watching.
